Free job hunting skills class for Veterans

Free job hunting skills training for Vets – Operation Hand Up

Operation Hand Up was founded with the assistance of U.S. Congressman Scott Peter’s office in 2013.  The first class just ended in January 2014 and 65% of the students have already landed jobs as a result.

We are now recruiting for the second class and can take a maximum of 12 trainees.  There is no charge for this to the Vet

This is an A to Z job hunting skill-building course taught by experienced private sector managers.  The course lasts about 6 weeks and requires attendance at a weekly, evening class (2 hours/week) held at Hewlett-Packard in Rancho Bernardo

What you will learn:
·         How the modern job market works and how to maximize your job search results (and why your efforts to-date may be falling short)
·         How to clarify your targeted job, and your skills, so that you focus on the best opportunities (and not waste time with on-line applications)
·         Apply resume basics so that your resume delivers the maximum punch and stands out to the hiring manager
·         The easy, painless way to network – remember 80% of jobs these days are filled via a referral (ie networking!)
·         You will learn how the hiring manager and interviewer think, and what they are looking for – it’s probably not what you think
·         How to create a killer LinkedIn profile – today almost all recruiters and hiring managers check LinkedIn so you have to be there
·         How to create hard-hitting answers to interview questions that make you stand out from the competition – a simple trick that delivers a big payload
·         How to “re-cast” your military skills and experience in ways the private sector will be receptive to;  connecting -the-dots between you and the job you want
·         Practice interviews with H-P managers in week 5 of the training – this was one of the most useful parts of the training according to the last class
·         And much more

The fact of the matter is this:  95% of people searching for  jobs are seriously lacking in the critical skills necessary to be successful.

It’s not their fault, it’s just that people do it so infrequently, and  their skills get rusty.

The good news that in 6 weeks we can turn you into a Job Hunting Master, so that you can out-compete the other 95% and be in the elite 5%.

Here’s what some of the past trainees said:

HP’s Operation Hand Up helped me translate my leadership and military skills into the private sector. I had the priceless opportunity of getting top notch feedback from HP leadership on interviewing and resume writing. I would highly recommend this program to any of my fellow veterans who are embarking on the tough, daunting journey of transitioning into the civilian workforce .  (Cassandra, accepted a position at Booz-Allen, December 2013)

The Operation Hand Up program is an advanced, yet easy-to-learn tool for anyone looking for a job in today's economy, a must-have for any serious job-seeker. The material and style of instruction does so much more than 99% of the so-called “free” internet job hunting advice I have looked at.  As a true “insider”, the instructor brings his knowledge of real world  hiring practices into the training and builds confidence in you, the individual, not just your skills as a job hunter. (Todd, accepted a position at a medical supply company, December 2013)

The Operation Hand Up training is really one-of-a kind, the best by far of anything I have seen.  The instructors are actual, practicing managers and really know how the system works.  No useless theories here…all meat!  (Sean, accepted position at a renewable energy company, January 2014)

If you are interested in joining out next class, contact Bill Loeber (William.loeber@hp.com) and reserve a spot.  Once we have 12, we will have to put you on the waiting list.
The next class will begin in February (exact dates to be determined)
