The Patriot Group, Inc. is looking for a qualified Laboratory Safety Specialist. In support of a contract supporting the U. S. Veterans Administration at the Los Angeles, CA (Wilshire facility). Chemical experience is highly desired buy the VA but not required.
Position responsibilities:
- Preliminary Research, which consists of performing detailed assessments of current storage, handling, and safety disposal practices currently used by research laboratories on approximately 100 hazardous chemicals and pathogens.
- The data to be collated and analyzed will be the of the following:
- Review MSDS provided by laboratory.
- Review CAL/OSHA regulations for safe handling and storage.
- Review DTSC (Department of Toxic Substances and Control) regulations for safe disposal.
- Interview client-designated researchers.
- Assess the specific needs of each laboratory.
- A standard operating procedure (SOP) will be written for each hazardous chemical/pathogen based on the data collected.
- Each SOP will be review by a Certified Industrial Hygienist prior to being delivered to the VA and Research Staff.
- Responsible for coordinating the following activities:
- Training the VA and research staff and on the implementation of the SOP
- Attending the sub-committee on research safety meetings and making recommendations
- Attending follow-up meetings with the Chief of Occupational Health and Safety.
- Other duties as necessary.
Pay: is $60K to $65K depending on experience. This position comes with full benefits.
