Subject: FW: California Conservation Corps / USFS Apprenticeship Program
Greetings Veterans,
Here’s a request….from the California Conservation Corps.
It appears they have a huge demand for the USFS Apprenticeship Program.

Subject: FW: California Conservation Corps / USFS Apprenticeship Program
I was hoping we could meet about our CCC/ USFS apprenticeship program. Currently,
the California Conservation Corps (CCC) is experiencing a unique
problem that I would like to bring to your attention. There are numerous
positions within the CCC to develop veterans for careers; however,
veterans are getting hired from our program faster than I can replace
them in the CCC veterans training slots. Since April 2012, 48 veterans
were plugged into the Veterans Fire Program and as of this week 24
veterans will have already been designated for a career with the USFS
and BLM. Once, the veteran receives their training in S212 - Wildland
Fire Chain Saws, I-100 Introduction to Incident Command System, S-130
Firefighter Training, S-190 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior, and
L-180 Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service, they are qualified for
an entry level position for wildland firefighting. In addition, there
are 100 positions available for the USFS apprenticeship program
designated for veterans who successfully complete our training program
(with 500 hours of experience). This helps us obtain our goal of putting
veterans in a program that can lead into careers in wildland
firefighting. The targeted age group is 18 –28, and veterans with 5 and
10 points preference and female veterans will have priority placement.
Primarily, due to the fact these veterans can be hired directly into the
USFS and BLM directly through the Veterans Recruitment Appointment
(VRA) and there are only a small proportion of females currently
attending. However, any qualified and committed veteran is encouraged to
apply!
In
addition, there are also positions available to veterans with the
Energy Crew (45), Backcountry Trails Crew (15), Watershed Stewards
Project (15), and hundreds of regular Corpsmembers positions that
veterans could potentially fill with the CCC. The Energy Crew is being
hired into positions through Solar City, Backcountry Trial Crew members
are being hired through State Parks and the USFS, and members of the
Watershed Stewards Project are being hired through the California
Department of Fish and Game. As a result, there is a continuous need for
veterans to join the CCC and be placed into careers.
This
message is intended to help plug veterans into the California
Conservation Corps with the opportunity to gain meaningful and stable
careers. This is a national program and is recognized by the State of
California, Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management, and
United States Forest Service. Any respectable and recognized veteran’s
program or veteran seeking employment is encouraged to contact Kris
LeCourt with the California Conservation Corps at (619) 409-4382, or
email me at kris.lecourt@ccc.ca.gov.
