Helix Water District is seeking a
Plant Operations Supervisor
$83,964 to $107,160/annually (Salary effective 7/1/13)

The Plant Operations Supervisor is an exempt supervisory class reporting
to the Water Treatment Plant Manager. This position performs the duties
of Chief Plant Operator. Under direction, plans, directs, supervises and
evaluates the work and activities of operations and maintenance personnel
at the District’s water treatment facility.
Qualifications
Training and experience substantially equivalent to
graduation from a four-year college or university with a
degree in engineering, chemistry, biology or a closely
related field.
Five years of increasingly responsible experience in the
operation or treatment process control of water treatment
facilities.
A California Department of Public Health Water Treatment
Operator Certificate, Grade T3.
Must obtain a California Department of Public Health
Water Treatment Operator Certificate, Grade T4 within
three years and Grade T5 within five years.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to motivate, coach, evaluate and provide guidance
to staff.
A valid California driver’s license and ability to maintain
insurability under the District’s Vehicle Insurance
Policy.
Examples of Duties
Plans, organizes and supervises the work of ten direct
reports team members.
Directs and schedules the daily activities of plant operators
and plant maintenance; directs activities associated
with the proper operation of process control and
maintenance of the physical plant including process
control.
Coordinates activities of the operations staff with the
Water Treatment Plant Manager to determine proper
operation and process parameters for the water treatment
plant and oversees their implementation.
Supports the District’s safety program at the water
treatment plant; ensures staff follow safety practices in
work methods and procedures; enforces proper safety
procedures while working in dangerous situations; educates
employees on rules, regulations, codes, safe work
habits and potential hazards presented by their work.
Responds to emergency situations as required at the
treatment plant and the distribution system.

BENEFIT SUMMARY FOR FULL TIME EMPLOYEES (as of 2/27/13)
Medical Insurance The District offers a choice of Kaiser HMO, Anthem Blue Cross HMO, or
Anthem Blue Cross PPO. District pays 100% of premium for employees and dependents.
Dental Insurance The District offers a choice of Delta Dental PPO or DeltaCare HMO. Dis-trict pays 100% of employee and 50% of dependent premium.
Vision Insurance The District provides a vision plan through VSP and pays 100% of the
premium for employees and dependents.
Life Insurance Life insurance is 100% paid by the District. Term life of 20 times the monthly salary to a maximum of $200,000, with additional Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage.
Long Term Disability Employee contributes 1/10th of 1% of salary towards LTD premium. This benefit pays 2/3 of salary, up to $10,000/month, should employee be-come disabled for an extended period of time. The District does not par-ticipate in the State Disability Insurance (SDI) Program.
CalPERS Retirement The District contracts with the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) with the retirement formula of 2.5% @ 55 for existing members. Employees currently contribute 4 of the 8% Employee Contri-bution. Employees will contribute 6% effective 7/1/13 and 8% beginning 7/1/14. Employees hired on or after 1/1/13 who are new CalPERS mem-bers will be enrolled in the 2% @ 62 retirement formula. For employees who meet the membership qualifications, membership in the CalPERS sys-tem is required. The District is also a Social Security participant.
Deferred Compensation The employee may participate in an optional 457 deferred compensation plan to set aside additional retirement income.
Paid Time Off The District combines vacation and sick leave accruals into one pool called Paid Time Off (PTO). Accrual starts at 24 days per year and increas-es after 5 years of service and beyond.
Holidays 12 paid holidays per year, including 2 floating.
Employee Assistance Personal, financial and legal counseling available to employees and their
Program dependents.
Tuition Reimbursement Employees may be reimbursed up to $2,746 annually for qualifying coursework.

lake tickets, bait, and tackle to customers. This position verifies and checks
fishing licenses, permits and fish counts plus performs other related duties.

friendly and courteous.
Ability to maintain effective customer relations
and have ability to use diplomacy when
enforcing rules and regulations.
General maintenance experience including
familiarity with hand tools and power-driven
equipment.
Ability to swim and knowledge of water safety.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Reliable self-starter who works well with
minimum supervision.
Must be able to hike up to 2-3 miles in rough
and steep terrain and work outside in extreme
weather conditions.
Valid California Driver’s license and good
driving record.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) helpful.
