Subject: Business 101 Seminar 1-4 Oct at Pendleton
*Business 101 Offered to Transitioning Officers and SNCOs*
* *
Career Marine Officers and SNCOs who are transitioning into the civilian work sector are urged to sign up for Business 101. Business
101 is a retirement program recommended by MEA-West, and dovetails with its 25+ program with no overlap. Past participants recommend this event.
Business 101 is a four-day course scheduled October 1 through 4 from
0800 to 1700 at Eagle’s Landing, 18415 Golf Course Drive in Camp Pendleton. It also includes facility tours of civilian companies on additional days to gain operational insights of all functions of the hosting civilian companies.
To register, email RickLamprecht@cox.net.
Business 101 is designed to help transitioning career military personnel with 20+ years of service understand what they need to know to succeed in civilian employment… a world far different from military culture. As one transitioning Colonel put it, “Entering civilian employment is scarier to me than flying in combat. Business
101 takes the scary out.”
Business 101 helps veterans succeed in their civilian career transitions. It teaches the language, terms, expectations, metrics, modern concepts, and theories of business management. It prepares transitioning vets for meaningful civilian job interviews and to be more successful in those jobs by providing practical, contemporary business tools used in civilian sectors. Even MBAs will learn practical insights of the instructors, all being senior business executives who are volunteering. The course is taught in business language, not military jargon in a business casual environment.
The competitive civilian business world needs veterans’ talents and experiences to be competitive in the world economy. But communication is an issue; it is the vet’s job to learn their language and practices, not the other way around. Business 101 helps bridge the gap between what career veterans offer and how civilian businesses perceive their marketable skills.
