Basic Assignments

Qualifications

Major Functions
• Provide behavioral support services for students and their families in a YMCA After School Program setting.

• Build quality relationships with youth to ensure their engagement.
• Responsible for administrative duties such as progress notes, documentation, case management, case review.

Basic Assignments
Responsible for building positive relationships among members, participants, volunteers and staff by actively greeting members and
participants and providing excellent customer service, guidance and leadership. Create and deliver dance / fitness programs within the
specialty area hired for. Lead specialty fitness classes in a safe, effective and timely manner, appropriate to the level of the
participants in class, to enhance the physical, mental and spiritual health of each student.
Qualifications
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
• 18 years of age or older.
• YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles certification within 90 days from date of hire.
• 1 National Certification in a Specialty area (2 preferred).
• Minimum 4 years experience leading classes in area of expertise.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field.
• Physical ability to lead and participate in exercise/fitness activities.
• Ability to communicate verbally to large and small groups of members.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
Major Functions
• Create and deliver group exercise classes within the parameters of class description and level.
• Class components will be delivered within guidelines of San Diego County Fitness Cluster Risk Management requirements.
• Represent the Mission Valley YMCA by utilizing tools and information to increase member knowledge of fitness as well as other
programs provided through the YMCA (handouts, charts, brochures, etc.).
• Start and end classes on time as scheduled.
• Instruct class members on correct position and body alignment to prevent injuries.
• Track the number of participants attending class every time you teach, according to procedures designed by your supervisor.
• Ensure that class evaluations are completed and turned in by all class attendees when appropriate.
• Know facility emergency procedures and the location of emergency equipment.

• Ensure your scheduled classes are always covered by following sub procedures.
