Behind the Numbers a different look at the unemployment
statistics
The San Diego region
has the nation's highest concentration of post-9/11 veterans, totaling more than
30,000, according to the Veterans
Administration last year. The unemployment rate for veterans is higher
than the nonveteran population.
Otto Delacruz, a retired military
traffic controller, now works for the San Diego Foundation. He participated in
a career transition program called REBOOT. "You can be the change in your life," says
Delacruz.
"The military really did prepare me for
another career in the civilian world."
REBOOT was funded by the San
Diego Workforce Partnership in 2011.
