POSITION SUMMARY:

The Park Maintenance Worker III will perform a variety of tasks within the Public Works
Department focusing on concrete flatwork and small to medium size general carpentry projects.
This is the advanced journey level class in the Park Maintenance Worker series. Positions
assigned to this class are distinguished from the Park Maintenance Worker II level in that they
perform specialized duties in the general carpentry and concrete flatwork and operate large
scale mowers and vacuuming equipment to maintain city turf and park areas. The Park
Maintenance Worker III level is distinguished from the Park Maintenance Lead Worker in that the
Park Maintenance Worker III level does not regularly provide lead supervision to lower level park
maintenance personnel and is not directly involved in assisting a Park Maintenance Supervisor
with administrative duties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the
listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set
forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment including tractors, top dressers, sod
cutters, and aerators.

Perform preventive maintenance and complex repairs on assigned equipment; sharpen
blades; rebuild engines; repair and adjust hydraulic systems.

Perform a variety of welding duties as required; fabricate tools, hand rails, and playground
equipment.

􀁺
Participate in construction activities including cement work, the installation of irrigation
systems, and a variety of other skilled trades duties.

Perform a variety of special projects as assigned including renovating ball fields.
􀁺
Perform journey level park maintenance duties as required.
􀁺
Drive vehicles used to transport materials, tools, and equipment as required.
􀁺
May be assigned a variety of duties to assist in street, sewer, and other public works
maintenance and repair projects.

Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of
assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.

May lead a small group of workers on an assigned project; ensure that safe procedures are

followed; provide direction to resolve unanticipated problems, in the absence of the
Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge
and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:

Formal or informal education or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level
necessary for successful job performance.

Experience:

Two years of increasingly responsible experience similar to the duties assigned to a Park
Maintenance Worker II.

License or Certificate:

Possession of valid Class C driver's license at time of appointment and required to obtain a Class
B driver's license with air brakes endorsement within first six months of employment.

EXAMINATION PROCESS:

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment medical
evaluation, including drug screen, and background investigation.
