Colleagues and Fellow Veterans:
Did you know the Department of Veterans Affairs
(VA), in partnership with the Small Business Administration (SBA) has a
tremendous amount of resources to support and help Veterans establish
and grow a small business? In fact, the premier annual event for
Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (VOSBs), the National Veterans Small
Business Conference (NVSBC), will take place in St Louis, August 6-8.
This event allows Veteran owners to build capacity and connect directly
with Government Procurement Decision Makers and business partners.
If
you know a Veteran who owns a business, or is interested in becoming a
business owner – tell them now about the Conference and the Department
of Veterans Affairs website at http://www.va.gov/osdbu/nvc/index.asp , which provides all the details.
At
the same time (on August 6th), our partners at the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce Foundation Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) will hold a Hiring Fair for
Veterans and military spouses in the midst of the National Veterans
Small Business Conference. More than 100 employers are expected to
participate with jobs available for Veterans and military spouses of all
ranks and levels of experience. HOH has conducted over 570 job fairs
around the country since March 2011. In March 2012, the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce, National Chamber Foundation, and Capital One launched Hiring
500,000 Heroes, a national campaign to engage the business community in
committing to hire half a million veterans and military spouses by the
end of 2014. Thus far, more than 1,000 businesses of all sizes have
pledged to hire 235,000 heroes toward this goal. To date, 119,000 hires
have been confirmed toward this goal. To register for the St. Louis or
any other Hiring Our Heroes Job Fair around the country, visit http://www.uschamber.com/hiringourheroes/events/210 .
Working together - Government, Nonprofit and Industry, we will make a difference for Veterans and their families!
